Heavenly Father,

This single sentence is an absolute lifeline for my tired soul today. What a profound relief it is to be reminded that the engine of my spiritual growth is not my own fragile willpower, but your relentless work inside of me. I am so thankful that you do not just hand me a list of moral demands and stand back with your arms crossed, waiting to see if I have the strength to pull it off. Instead, you actually supply the desire and the power to do what pleases you.

Yet, Lord, I confess how easily I forget this. I spend so much of my week operating as if my spiritual life is entirely a self-help project. I white-knuckle my way through temptations, I force a manufactured patience when I am interrupted, and I run on the fumes of my own resolve. And when my willpower inevitably runs out by the end of the day, I collapse into a cycle of guilt, feeling like I have disappointed you again. I treat obedience like a heavy boulder I am trying to push up a hill all by myself, completely ignoring the fact that your Spirit lives inside me.

Forgive my stubborn independence. Rescue me from the exhausting illusion that I can change my own heart. Today, I am asking for a profound shift in my desires. Would you work in my “want-to”? Soften my rigid edges and replace my gritted teeth with a quiet trust in your power.

When I face decisions today, small or large, remind me that your grace is actively at work beneath the surface of my life. Help me to stop striving and start surrendering to the good purposes you are already bringing to life in me.
